“YOUR grandmother has Alzheimer’s, right?” the doctor asked me, scrawling notes into a floppy manila folder.

I hadn’t expected to discuss my grandmother’s Alzheimer’s with him. I was hoping to hear some explanation as to why, apart from her memory, my grandmother’s overall health seemed so mysteriously improved. Her lupus, for instance, had all but disappeared from her blood work.

“Yes, but …” I began.

Wonks R Us

Of the 83 people invited to join the Economic Recovery Cabinet, five were explicitly representing small businesses.  If you include the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations, the number goes up to six.  This despite the fact that small businesses represent 90% of businesses in Portland and we create 3/4 of net new jobs.  Does anyone else see a disconnect here?

Just back from Mardi Gras

and all fascinated with Parades, Krewes and Mardi Gras history!

Saw Krewe of Eris, Orpheus, Rex, Proteus, St Cecelia, St Anne, and who knows what else. Next year I’d love to go earlier to catch the other bigger parades, like Muses and Zulu

We were there for 6 days, finishing out with a Jazz Funeral on Saturday with performances by Alaine Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Charmaine Neville and others. Second line and jazz procession at the end.

(Twitter is a free social-networking service that allows subscribers to send and receive short, real-time updates, messages and questions.)
